Common Core

We at Living Science believe that God has entrusted parents with the responsibility for educating their own children.

Teach [God’s Word and laws] to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deut 11:19

While that education may take many different forms including homeschooling, following God’s command to teach our children means that control of our children’s education should rest with us as much as possible, and not with the federal government. For that reason, as well as many other issues, we are fundamentally opposed to the Common Core curriculum.

Comments from Dr. Ben Carson, MD:

For primary and secondary education, the bedrock concept that has always guided us has been “local control.” Communities fund and manage public schools for the benefit of families and children in their neighborhoods.

More than most, I’m acutely aware of education being the ladder that can lead one out of poverty and into realizing the American Dream. In recent years, there has been a troubling trend of the U.S. Department of Education increasingly trying to dictate how children are educated in our primary and secondary schools. This must stop and Common Core must be overturned.

Our education system must be run by involved parents and engaged teachers and principals. Any attempt by faceless federal bureaucrats to take over our local schools must be defeated.

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth.
